Three weeks late I have learnt of her death, many years too soon. I feel as if the bottom has dropped out of the world. She made me hurt from laughing but right now I simply feel numb. My deepest sympathies to her partner and her family. I have no doubt she was as lovely as she seemed.

Will, March 2006

My first reaction on hearing the news of Linda Smith's death was: 'It's not fair.' Linda was never a great lover of appearing on TV so perhaps did not achieve the fame that many other performers do, but I have taped many editions of The News Quiz and still laugh out loud at some of her sets - and as Sandi Toksvig said, as her co-pannelist on that show, "I've never sat next to a truly funny woman, and its great!" - and its still not fair...

Steph Tickner, March 2006

She made me laugh so much, she will be missed by so many

G Smith, March 2006

So sorry to hear of Linda's death through the dreadful big C at only 48. She will be sorely missed indeed. Condolences to her partner and family - a very sad time for all.

Rosalyn Hamblett, March 2006

A totally lovely and funny, warm, intelligent woman. A great role model. An inspiration. I'll miss your wit but I'll remember you. Sorry to your family.

Lisa, March 2006

Dont cry because she's not here, smile because she was here... and touched us all.

Linda, March 2006

I was looking forward to listening to Linda for many years to come. She was someone at the top of their field & without any doubt the funniest person I have ever heard. I really wish I had seen her live. I just feel robbed, my deepest sympathies to those closest to Linda, you will be sorely missed

Peter Jones, March 2006

Later than everybody else I've just learned of the sad passing of the incomparable Linda Smith. To lose someone this talented and witty is an utter tragedy and my heart goes out to her family and friends. She was the brightest, funniest talent on radio, but never crude, and you knew that any programme on which she appeared was guaranteed to be hilariously and outrageously funny. We need many more of her kind. The world is a much poorer place for her passing. God Bless her
