So sad that Linda has died of ovarian cancer. I was operated on for this five years ago and have been very lucky to recover - more publicity for this awful disease would be welcome. She will be very much missed.

I too nearly crashed my car when I heard the sad news that Linda Smith had died. I had missed her recently had wondered when she was going to be back. I always enjoyed her humour and her down to earth views. A terribly sad loss.

The warmth and charm of her personality and of her comedy made you feel as if she was more a personal friend than a radio celebrity. She will be greatly missed by all who felt they knew her. A great loss to British radio comedy. Brief History was one of the funniest radio sitcoms ever. I hope they repeat it over and over, so Linda's work will still be with us.

Like most people I was genuinely shocked to hear the news last night and did not want it to be true. Apart from her own intelligent and original humour the other great thing about Linda on the News Quiz was that she really laughed at other people's jokes.
