Linda was a joy to listen to! Listening to her was like listening to an extemely witty warm friend. A great loss to comedy and to us all.

Iris Bateson, March 2006

I adored Linda Smith - she was THE funniest and breathtakingly sharp female comeddian - probably ever - I loved her dryness, her speed, her gorgeous ascerbic wit - it was a good day for me until I heard this - I have plummeted

Catherine Hyde, March 2006

I remember seeing Linda in a downtown Rotherham club 20 years ago at 2am –after which I was proud to have booked her for gigs in Bury along with the Chuffinelles, another of Warren's great Sheffield Popular Theatre's acts. I was stunned at the news of her death and can only share the feelings of others about her humanity and genius. It was a real life joy to have met Linda and enjoyed her honesty and generosity and her laughter

Tony, March 2006

I only heard the terrible news of Linda's death when tuning in to the News Quiz tonight. I am stunned and deeply saddened. Thanks Linda for bringing so much laughter into an increasingly dark and depressing world - you will be sadly missed.

Tony Griffin, March 2006

Linda Smith - what a very ordinary name or such an extraordinary woman. Intelligent, sharp witted and with a great way of viewing the ironies and hypocrises of the world today. Even though she had obviously been ill for a long time you always hoped that she might have evenutally beaten it. What an tragic loss to her family and her fans

Val H, March 2006

I am utterly shocked by the news of Linda's death, such a waste of life and talent. I went to see 'A Brief History of Timewasting' being recorded and was blown away by her astonishing wit. My sincere condolences to all that knew her.

I J Wiilliams, March 2006

Sadly and sorely missed. But the memories are so great.

John Allen, March 2006

So sad to hear this. I first heard her on the News Quiz, and would often hope that she'd be on that week's panel as it was a guarantee of quality. Loved her sharp mind and brilliant wit. Condolences to her partner and family.
