I and my of my friends were very sad to learn of the death of Linda Smith. In my view we have lost one of the greatest and wittiest talents on Radio 4 with her sad death at such a young age. Her determination to perform even with her ill health shows how she was top of her game. Radio 4 will not be the same with her passing

John H., March 2006

I think Linda has had the last laugh, someone famous born in Erith - what an accolade. Well done Linda, we will always remember you with a wry smile and a suppressed giggle.

Hilary Harris, March 2006

Like all others I was extremely saddened to hear of Linda's death. At the start of Just a Minute or The News Quiz when that week's panel are announced I was always happy to hear Linda's name, knowing that it guaranteed a funny half hour. Will greatly miss her.

John Adams, March 2006

First, there's a huge personal sense of loss: I saw her live once and always hoped she'd be on her regular R4 slots. Second - I don't know if she had any charities she supported - a CD of Best of Linda Smith would sell massively and could make a great contribution to something that mattered to her. Third - to her partner and close friends - the depth of your loss measures the quality of what you had. She was loved by many people - a very special woman.

Liz Brandow, March 2006

Absolutely gutted. She was one of my favourite Comedians. I loved going to see News Quiz being recorded when she was on. She was fantastic. She will be missed.

Emma King, March 2006

So very sad and shocked to hear of a genuinely, naturally funny lady who also came accross as very warm and obviously incredibly intelligent. Not afraid to say what she thought, which is rare in this day and age of celebrity, frankly because she did not care what people thought of her, or her views, which was fabulous. God bless you Linda and thank you

WeeV, March 2006

We have just listened to the News Quiz and were stunned to learn that Linda Smith had died. We both thought she was the funniest person and will miss hearing her. Best wishes to her family

E Bates, March 2006

We were both so sorry to hear that Linda Smith had died, only 48. She was always so funny, clever, her politics were spot on. We saw her maybe about 18 years ago at the Buzz comedy club in Chorlton in South Manchester before she 'became famous', and had followed her since. Sympathies to all close to her.
