First appearance on stage
A confident American (is there any other kind?), CK combines sharp and spiky observational gags with the occasional nasty aside that really does push the envelope of bad taste.
He's written for everyone from Chris Rock to David Letterman, but the comic he most sounds like is Jerry Seinfeld, questioning everyday aspects of life until they suddenly seem ridiculously bizarre when subjected to his brilliantly misplaced logic.
But he's raunchier and more barbed than Seinfeld ever would be, talking about his sex-starved marriage or paedophilia as comfortably as he does an innocent signpost spotted in the park or the modest trials of having an overdraft. It's only when he strays into fantasies about raping Hitler that he berates himself for going to far.
It's a tight, funny set - albeit one that doesn't leave much room to address the here and now. No banter, no char, no references to anything that falls outside his prepared routine.
But then with material this good, he can be forgiven for not wanting any distractions.

Never thought I'd find an American comedian funnier than my favourite British comedians, but I have. Going to see him live for the first time in November and can't wait. If you're reading this you've probably seen his stuff but check out his videos. Hilarious.
This guy is by far the funniest comic working today.
I actually almost shit my pants when I saw him on comedy central - he is funny even when he is not dirty.
Brilliant brilliant comedian
Funniest comedian I ever saw
This guy is hillarious. had no idea he wrote and directed Pootie Tang. No wonder he's fuckin funny... Genius.
Wonderfully original and fresh - he has earned his position alongside other great Hungarian-American comedians such as Ernie Kovacs, Seinfeld, and Freddie Prinze
He is a finely ballenced live performer who relies upon the good will of an audience to travel the unexpected path he's prepaired for them. He's not one of those comedians who's waiting and willing to cut down Heckles with a stock of insults and adlibs. He has great respect for a roomful of people who want to hear him, but seems genuinely hurt if that trust is broken. However you encounter him, if you put your brain in his skilful hands and he will fill it with laughter
