Comedian to star in West End production

Comedian and impressionist Luke Kempner is to appear in the new production of Les Miserables in the West End.

The performer, currently performing Gritty Police Drama: A One-Man Musical at the Edinburgh  Fringe, will play unscrupulous landlord Thénardier at the  Sondheim Theatre from Monday September 25.

The role has previously been played by Matt Lucas, among others.

But it is not the first time Kempner has appeared in Les Mis. He started his career playing Marius in a 2010 touring production, and has also had roles in Avenue Q and South Pacific.

And he can already be heard in the West End as he provides the recorded voice of around 30 puppets in Spitting Image Live, including King Charles, Prince Harry, Michael Caine, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Jurgen Klopp.

Other actors joining the new cast of Les Mis include Katie Hall as Fantine, Will Callan as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine and Djavan van de Fliert as Enjolras. They join Josh Piterman as Jean Valjean, Stewart Clarke as Javert, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier and Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette.
