Katie Walsh – Original Review

Note: This review is from 2001

Review by Steve Bennett

Walsh has a fertile comedy mind, with material that - at its best - is very strongly written indeed, eliciting laughs from unexpected places. It's not consistently brilliant, but there are plenty of splashes of inspiration here.

Her failing, though, is that she doesn't yet have the stage presence to get the best out of the material.

Walsh's softly-spoken persona does not generate any energy, and though you will be rewarded for paying attention, she in no way demands it.

Balancing that quiet manner with the need to hold an audience's focus is not an easy task, but if she can crack it, her comedy future will be assured.
