Gearoid Farrelly: Fringe 2012

Unless the Turbulence that Farrelly refers to in his title is caused by a time machine, this show has been misnamed.
I have seen numerous acts use dated material in their shows over the years but never to this extent. Claiming that Lady Gaga’s appearance at the 2010 MTV music awards in a meat dress was ‘recent’ is just shameful. Almost as shameful as tossing up some old gags about Michael Jackson’s death as though the thought has just occurred to him.
And why, oh why Farrelly thinks that anyone remembers Mary Byrne from X Factor 2010 well enough to devote a good ten minutes telling everyone how fat and ugly she is I have no idea.

This is a spectacularly lazy and mean hour from someone who seems to think he will go quite far based on the fact that he is Irish and gay.
And since he seems to have put less than 10 minutes into writing a new show I’m going to show him the same respect as he is showing his paying audience by doing the same with his review.

I believe this review is completely unfounded and not a true reflection of what I saw last night. There was no claim of Lady Gaga being recent, no mention of Mary Byrne, and if you aren't allowed to make reference to anything that has happened over the past number of years then Peter Kay would have a very short act. I found this to be funny and warm. The small venue means that gets put across and you are put at ease. The banter is gently mocking without being too in your face and some of the observations are clever and well thought out. OK not everyone is going to like everything, but certainly a decent fair review would have been more appropriate.
