George Egg at Good Lord! It\\\\\\\'s The Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue And Friends

Novelty act George Egg attempts the cheesy bad magician shtick - but it's fair to say he’s no Tommy Cooper. On paper, his ham-fisted tricks, stupid props and faux bonhomie could have the same daft appeal as tonight’s hosts, but it seems much more forced. He has the air not of a silly entertainer having some frivolous fun, but the rather-too-desperate-to-please office joker trying every trick in the book to get attention.

Yet the act seems strangely sluggish, lacking the effortless pizzazz needed to sell this sort of cheesy, zany fare. There are a couple of successful slick tricks, and the odd strong sight gag, but we’re dangerously close to children’s party entertainment here.

Saw him recently, wasn't the headline act but was by far the best. Strangest act I've had the pleasure to see in a long time.

Caught Glorious George's act at Komedia and I was delighted. Brilliant use of stuff! Really funny and original. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

Paul, November 2003

The man is a comic genius, although he does look a bit like Harry Hill's fat older brother. Love the card trick, and the drunken heckler served to put the audience ever more firmly into George's lap. A superb act.

Robin, May 2003

Have just seen George in Halifax and I thought he was brilliant. Simply daft might be a good description of his routine, but perhaps that's why it's so good. It's daft whilst remaining simple! The audience loved him ,a breath of fresh air on the stand -up cicuit and something different.

Graham, April 2003

I love this man!

Sullivan Marchant, March 2003

I saw George at the Glee Club Birmingham last night. He was awful. Relying heavily on props for jokes that failed to hit the spot, he also did the majority of the gig with his back to our side of the crowd even though we were on the front row. Someone should tell him to get some decent material and know how to stand on stage so he doesn't alienate half of the audience. I did The Glee last Thursday and had a great time. The audience loved the show and laughed and laughed. I was very disappointed by Rich Dudley though. He was a dreadful audience member who failed to laugh along or enjoy himself. Avoid him if you can. Rich Dudley

Saw him at the Grimsby Auditorium in Jongleurs - On The Road. He stunned the audience by taking a bowling ball out of a small briefcase...but then spent the rest of his set doing sh*tty kids party tricks and gags. He was a bit rubbish and he should of kept his clothes on at the end. "Should HAVE kept his clothes on", not "should OF kept his clothes on". Come on Grimsby, don't play to your stereotype... Egg 07.11.03 Actually George, I'm from Shropshire. My comments may not have been grammatically correct, but they were still accurate. Work on the act - not correcting my mistakes!
