Original Review:
Newcomer Edward Aczel is an unforgettable performer. He has no jokes, reads the topic titles from the back of his hand and has all the delivery skills of the chief accountant awkwardly making a staff announcement.
Yet his is brilliantly funny - and there is absolutely no reason why he should be, other than the sheer subversion of the idea of a comedian being a confident, strong personality reeling off sharp jokes.
Instead he catalogues what he’s about to talk about, then offers vacuous, non-committal platitudes on each of them. Example: ‘What can you say about the Spanish Armada? I’m not 100 per cent sure…’
It is impossible to explain, but can reduce a room to hysterics - although it is easy to envisage other situations when he would die a horrible, slow death.
His set is, however, unlike anything you have ever seen, and worth catching for that alone

Edward gets perplexed reactions simply because he's so different from your standard stand-up. His material is very clever and funny, you just have to get into it!

Saw Ed Aczel at the comedy bunker in Ruislip this week. Had never seen him before. Judging from the comments here, and my perception of how he went down, clearly he's a bit marmite. Personally thought he was excellent, laughed loads.
Bernard Farrell - 29/08/2010
We saw Edward in a Comedy Showcase at the Edinburgh fringe, we laughed ten times more in his 10 minutes than in several other comedians' 1hour show. Possibly not for everyone as other postings state, but the entire crowd loved him
Stan Butler - 22/06/2010
Absolutely abysmal
Paul Rasmussen - 09/04/2010
Saw him at the Leicester comedy festival. A very funny man, really great. Still laughing when I think about him saying 'I've just pulled a really long white hair out of my nose'
Barry - 09/03/2010
Just been to see Ed at the Ashley Green Village Hall, a small and unusual venue. A very mixed crowd so tough for some of the other acts however Ed was excellent. His style is slow but every nugget is worth the wait! I laughed almost hte entire time, if not at his words then just at him! Looking forward to seeing how his routines develop. The only way to truly know if to see him yourself. He isn't going to be for everyone that is for sure, but I know a full room of people really enjoyed him on Saturday!

Awful. Truly, truly awful. I went to see Edward Aczel at the Leicester Comedy festival last night and he was embarrasingly bad. There was precious little in the way of laughter, just an uninteresting man reading poor gags from a piece of paper. A throughly disappointing evening.

I'm genuinely not sure what Arthur is going on about. I went to see Ed at Soho theatre and there was plenty of laughter. I've seen him before and understand if people dont get it, or enjoy it. But to say no one in the audience enjoyed it is a lie.

Went to see Edward Aczel at the soho theatre London. e did 40mins of an embarrassingly bad show.In fact he was truly atrocious and a total waste of the £12 entrance fee. There was very little laughter and everyone we spoke to later seemed to agree.

Sam and Jude. Oh dear. You are both wrong. So very, very wrong. Ed Aczel is hilarious. I cried with laughter the first time I saw him. And the second. And I look forward to doing the same when I see him next. Ed Aczel is amazing!
Sam - 15/06/2009
I agree with Jude. Having seen the show I can't help thinking that this is all some kind of mad conspiracy, a practical joke on the general public thought up in a pub in Edinburgh by a bunch of bored comedians - 'eh, I bet we can get them to think a pile of crap is great if we load it down with enough plaudits and describe it as groundbreaking!'. I'm all for different, but this was just one joke - 'isnt it funny how utterly unprepared and unscripted I can be and get away with it'. And it was never that funny a joke to begin with. Being not very good isn't funny or clever, and to suggest otherwise is to discredit all the excellent work which goes into making good stand-up great.
Jude - 27/01/2009
I obviously didn't get this one. I've seen plenty of standup but this was just awful, embarrassing, cringe-worthy. I'm convinced I heard nothing but awkward laughs from the audience. If it isn't bad enough he actually gives a running count down of how long left you'll be subjected to his show. There's alternative and then there's poor, this is not worth your time or money.
Michael Monkhouse - 14/05/2008
Makes you doubt everything you thought you knew about comedy. About life, actually... There's no reason why he should be so funny, but he is. Had me in stitches and everyone else too.
Richard - 24/04/2008
Saw him at the Hen & Chicken last Monday- absolutely brilliant. We were in utter hysterics for the whole of the show. Will definitely try and see him again!
mad_s... - 04/12/2007
Saw him on Jimmy Carrs's DVD and ended up blowing Fanta out my nose. The most hilarious act around
Tom - 09/10/2007
Ed Aczel is either one of the world's greatest comedy legends or severely mental. I really can't tell whether he does it on purpose or not. But It's brilliant.
Fiona - 10/09/2007
I saw Ed Aczel in Edinburgh and he was so funny. A genius. Can't wait to see him again. He is fantastic. Don't miss him if he is on near you.
Stacey Laumann - 16/05/2007
this guy played Throckmorton Comdey in Mill Valley, California this month. Funny as hell. Really dry, great delivery, refreshing content. I'd like to see a lot more of him.
tom - 08/05/2007
Saw him last night in New Cross, he had me in tears of laughter from the moment he stepped onto the stage and I'm still laughing today. His delivery is on a par with the very best, in fact he's up there with the Stewart Lees of this world. A genuine original, you must go and see him.
Tom - 22/04/2007
My God! Edward Aczel is one of the funniest stand-ups I've seen in years!and I'm only judging this totally from seeing Jimmy Carr's live DVD. It's completly original and so very funny. Hope to see more of him in the future -especially over the waters here in Ireland.
Jamie - 07/04/2007
Just watched the Jimmy Carr DVD and saw Ed Aczel. Funniest stand up I've seen in years. A true original.
Dan - 27/01/2007
Ed Aczel, what a performer. This guy has to go on tour! Brilliant in the extra feature Comedy Idol on Jimmy Carr's DVD and would like to see more! Funny funny guy
Stu - 20/02/2006
Does Ed know that he's funny? I think someone just told him to stand on stage for a bit and great comedy occured.
Sned - 15/02/2006
This guyis God - in human and comic form of course. Is this bloke mental or funny?...well he's definitely funny
Martin - 15/02/2006
Ed Aczel is, by far, the funniest person on the planet. He blatently should have won comedy idol. I kept skipping between his auditions and his comedy store stand up on the jimmy carr (stand-up) DVD so many times, each time funnier than the last. Thank you Ed, you god
Mike - 29/12/2005
I saw this guy on Comedy Idol on the special features of Jimmy Carr's new DVD (which if you haven't seen yet, you must). And i thought that this guy should have won it. He's absolutely brilliant. At first I thought he was just mental but then when you see him again at the Comedy Store, you realise that his strange way of delivering his 'jokes' are actually deliberate and therefore brilliant.
