Comic given carte blanche in The Characters

Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Dr Brown has made his own half-hour show for Netflix.

The absurd comedian, real name Phil Burgers, is one of eight comedians given a single episode in the new sketch series The Characters.

Lauren Lapkus, Kate Berlant, Paul W. Downs, John Early, Tim Robinson, Natasha Rothwell  and Henry Zebrowski are the others involved.

Each was allowed to make what they wanted with their time, with the streaming service billing the result as ‘outlaw comedy’ for its lack of rules. ‘What was once reserved for sketch festivals and comedy clubs can now be enjoyed in your living room,’ Netflix says.

Gaulier-trained Burgers previously made a one-off half-hour special for Channel 4 in 2012, part of a 4Funnies series that spawned Uncle, following this online Blap:
