Original Review:A newcomer who’s cutting his teeth hosting a regular Newcastle Uni gig, Chris Martin offers a solid stand-up set, with close attention to gags.
First on his agenda is obviously the matter of his name, wearily dismissing the coincidence that he shares it with the Coldplay frontman. That leads smoothly on to a more distinctive discourse on people’s names and beyond, which might initially seem unpromising, but ultimately yields some surprisingly efficient lines.
It’s a tight, well structured and funny set, and even if some material threatens to verge on the bland, the fact he sounds and acts like a much more established comic gives an audience confidence in him

Chris shares my silly over thinking helmet! (twitter) its a rare ability to overthink things to the point of comedic effect! well done on being so funny, your podcasts are truly brilliant! Jimmy!
I have yet to see him live, but after listening to his and Carl Donnelly's podcast, I can confirm that Chris Martin is comedy gold! I hope to see him sometime this year and I wish him all the best for the future.
Saw him twice recently, 2-3 months in between gigs. Exactly the same material both times, word for word and it wasn't even funny the first time I'm afraid. Nice enough guy and the podcast is good (carried by Carl) but as a stand-up, he is too safe and his material is weak.
I have seen this comic at the last two fringes, he was brilliant both times. I can't wait to see this years show!
Chris Martin is awesome. He cracks me up. I've seen him three times now.
Re: The Comedy Tree in Wimbledon. I was also at that gig and the below comment is completely inaccurate. Chris was a great compere and in relation to finding out one of the female audience members was gay was anything but thrown. He then made a nice off-the-cuff comment about referring to your other half as a ”partner” and the potential for having a partner in crime. Great gig.
A fantastic comedian; charming, witty and intelligent, he is sprinting towards the top at breakneck speed.
He has learnt the ropes of being a comedian and looks and sound like a very slick presenter but he lacks any wit at all. He is just not funny. but very "nice"
