Loneliness of the long-distance comic

Carl Barron's new film about stand-up

Australian stand-up Carl Barron is to star in a new movie about a lonely comedian looking for love.

He is currently shooting scenes in Sydney for the film Manny Lewis, which he co-wrote with actor Anthony Mir.

'It’s a movie about my life as a comic on the road for the last 20 years,' Barron said. 'I got a bit worn out from touring, so I decided to take a rest and make a movie.'

The semi-autobiographical story follows a fictional stand-up who connects with millions of fans but finds it hard to connect to one person. It will also feature some new stand-up from Barron, who has released four bestselling concert DVDs down under.

Due to be released in Australia next year, the film also stars antipodean actors Leeanna Walsman, Roy Billing and Damien Garvey.

It is co-financed by the production arm of Australia's TV network Seven, Barron's agent A-List Entertainment and production company Beyond Films.

Coincidentally, Manny Lewis use to be the movie critic of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
