Christina Martin

Third placed in the 2006 Funny Women competition |

Original Review: Christina Martin has unashamedly copied Stewart Lee’s entire persona, from the long, deliberate pauses mid-sentence to the delicately judged sarcasm – not to mention an unflagging obsession with the idiotic doctrines of organised religion. So heavy is the debt of inspiration, that you can almost hear her best Pope-deriding material coming from the sneery mouth of Lee himself. And I mean that a compliment - there are a lot worse people to try to emulate, and she does so with conviction and intelligence. Writing words in someone else’s voice takes a certain skill, and once this up-and-coming comic finds her own style, that proven talent will come to the fore. |

Thanks to Christina for what I thought was a very funny and highly pertinent performance at the British Humanist Association annual conference of celebrants. (Yes, I know it's a mouthful) I daresay we we were not the most responsive audience she's ever had, and maybe not everyone enjoyed her style and content as much as I did - but then humanists rarely agree about anything (other than what you'd expect, about god and all...) I liked her set very much, not merely because she is clearly "on our side," but because she was funny - sharp, excellent timing, good choice of targets, didn't need to swear a lot to try to impress us and reassure herself - as another comment says, she is a class act. Keep digging, Christina. tim clark, humanist funeral celebrant, November 2008 |

Her timing is end-of-the-pier perfect, yet she seems resistent to delve into her livelihood and instead would rather regurgitate the ideas that Stewart Lee advocates. Jack, November 2008 |

Really off-beat and sharp and funny. Definitely worth watching. Michael Monkhouse, June 2008 |

Booked Christina for a Ladyfest gig last night and i was so impressed. It's always so nice to see a comic who has no special quirks, no affected or generic comedy mannerisms and really intelligent, funny material. I would book her again in a shot (in fact om thinking of running a regular night just so i CAN book her again) Claire Pollard, Ladyfest London 2008, May 2008 |

Exellent. May well be the best female comic I have seen. Barry Dodds, January 2008 |

Christina and me co-hosted the Worst Lobby Awards evening, and she was great! intelligent cool British comedy. the Brussels-based international crowd liked it a lot, and i bet some of them only even got half of the jokes, double layers and spot-on comments. Christina puts the "Art" back in "Martin"! Frank van Schaik, December 2007 |

We asked Christina to perform at the Worst EU Lobbying Awards 2007 ceremony in Brussels. Christina, not knowing much about lobbying was very proactive and did a great deal of research on the topic. Her script and delivery were exemplary and she had the audience in stitches. She obviously has a big future ahead of her and deservedly so! Oliver, December 2007 |

Christina kindly provided entertainment at the Secularist of the Year event organised by the National Secular Society. Given that the winner was an Iranian woman who had suffered greatly and then fought back courageously against the ghastly woman-hating clerical regime, it might have been a bit downboeat. Christina's very funny - and very appropriate - set raised the mood considerably and turned it into a real party. She had a receptive audience and they took to her immediately - once laugh after another as she laid into religion in her inimitable way. She's a comic with a big future - that's if she can stand the strain of being on the wrong side of the po-faced pietists. Terry Sanderson, president National Secular Societ, October 2007 |
