Just gets worse and worse, sorry. It started when he did 'The Man from Auntie' and turned into a pussy cat. Now there are so many great figures on the circuit isn't it time to retire mate?

I saw him recently at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and I did not laugh once. Boring, pointless and not in the slightest bit funny anymore. He tries to pretend he's still political and edgy but he's just making jokes about fridges and picking the kids up from school.

We saw Ben Elton at the beginning of his NZ & Australia 2006 tour and he was fantastic! Just as good as he's always been. Plenty of chuckles throughout and some screamingly funny parts too. Welcome back Ben, please stay on the stand-up circuit for ever

Saw him last night in Bradford - a mixed night. His stage presence, delivery, and passion are all still top-notch - the man's a great comic performer. Plus, he's as manic, blissfully foul-mouthed and shiny-suited as you'd never dare hope. But the material? Oh dear ... a good half of it was stuff we've all seen done either a decade ago, or dozens of times since - and often better. The trials of loading a dishwasher ... the tendency to grow hair in odd places when one gets old ... highlighting the irony in the term "friendly fire" ... how annoying email spam is ... "what's the deal with those "sorry to keep you waiting" messages at call centres?" ... For fuck's sake, Ben, is that the best you could do after eight years chewing the end of your pen? It was lazy and mainstream, as though he'd had Jasper Carrott writing his material for him. Which was a real shame; only the choice of material let him down.

Absolutely fantastic. A true icon.

Seen Ben Elton for the first time during 2005 at Llandudno and Southport. Was almost in tears with laughing. A true master of comedy. Celsobro 26.12.05
